Chaozhou City
Chaozhou is located in the east of Guangdong
Province. To its east locates Fujian Province,
to its south Shantou Special Economic Zone,
to its west Jieyang City and to its north
Meizhou City. Chaozhou City has an area
of 3,613.9 square kilometers and a population
of 2.479 million. As the famous historic
and cultural city, people of Chaozhou are
engaged in building up the East Gateway
of Guangdong and constructing the new development
structure.
1. General Survey of Economic
Development
The economic construction and foreign
trade of Chaozhou are thriving and flourishing.
In 2003, its GDP was RMB 21.5 billion. Large-scale
industrial enterprises reached the number
of 522, 73 more than that of 2002. The gross
industrial output value was RMB 15.07 billion,
increased by 19.8% over the same period
of last year. The total export and import
value of Chaozhou reached US$ 1.16billion,
increased by 25.1%, of which, the export
value was US$ 940 million. Contractual foreign
investment is US$ 120 million, and actually
utilized foreign investment was US$ 119
million,up by 13.5%.
2. Unique Advantages and Development
Characteristics

Chaozhou’s infrastructure
is continuously approaching perfect.
In recent 5 years, over RMB 7 billions
have been put into the infrastructure
constructions in Chaozhou. After Chaozhou
section of Guang(zhou) -Mei(zhou)-Shan(tou)
railway has been put into operation,
the extension part of Chaozhou feeder
of Shan(tou)-Fen(yang) Expressway has
also been open to traffic. Chaozhou
Harbour has become the independent Grade-1
opening port. Chaozhou has constructed
a batch of roads, which formed the convenient
transportation network. A batch of power
transformation stations has been built
up as well. Telephone switches by program
control and digital transmission are
been realized, and multi-dimensional
transmission network has come into being. |

Unique travel resources. There are
regional styles in Chaozhou Drama, Chaozhou
Music, Chaozhou Cuisine, Chaozhou Kongfu
Tea and Chaozhou Residential Housing
etc. Chaozhou Embroidery is an important
one among the four famous embroideries
in China. Chaozhou Wood-sculpture is
one of two wood-sculpture systems in
China. Fenxi, called Ceramics Capital
of South Country, is the main ceramics
export base throughout the country.
Owning the massive cultural relics,
Chaozhou has more than 700 relics with
beautiful natural landscapes. |

The strategy of building up the city
by applying industrialization got an
initial success. Through the implementation
of industrialization strategy, Chaozhou
has established four pillar industries
including ceramics, garments, foodstuff
manufacture, and electronic industries.
The products of four pillar industries
are also the main export commodities.
Awarded the title of “Chinese
famous City for Wedding Dress and Evening
Wear ”, Chaozhou is applying to
be rewarded the title of “Ceramics
