Jiangmen City
Located in the western part of the Pearl
River Delta, Jiangmen City adjoins such
central cities as Hong Kong, Guangzhou and
Shenzhen. It is an important part of the
economic circle of Guangdong, Hong Kong
and Macao. It covers an area of 9,541 square
kilometers and a population of 3.95 million,
and it is the National Experimental Information
City and the only experimental city in China
of the “RISE Plan” of APEC.

Development
Since the implementation of the policy
of reform and opening up to the outside
world, Jiangmen witnessed rapid economic
progress, ranking among the top 50 cities
with the strongest overall strength in China.
Jiangmen’s foreign economic and trade
developed rapidly and all-rounded, multi-level
foreign open pattern has been formed. In
2003, the total import and export value
reached US$ 5.87 billion, increased by 22.9%,
among which the export value was US$ 3.65
billion, increased by 23.7%. The actual
utilization of foreign capital reached US$
735 million with an increase of 15.5%.

Jiangmen has developed transportation,
The Foshan to Kaiping, Jiangmen to Heshan,
Xinhui to Taishan Expressways and the
Seaside Expressway in West Guangdong
have been opened to traffic. Besides,
the Kaiping to Yangjiang and Jiangmen
to Zhongshan expressways are under construction.
With the Xijing River and the Tanjiang
River running through and 5 first-graded
ports and 10 second-graded ports and
6 direct passenger transport waterway
line from Hong Kong to Macao in its
territory. Jiangmen has become a hub
of communication from West Guangdong
and Southeast China to the Pearl River
Delta and Hong Kong and Macao. |
