Yangjiang City
Located on southwest coast of Guangdong
Province and in the middle of Guangzhou
and Zhanjiang city,Yangjiang has an overall
area of 7,813 square kilometers and a population
of 2.6 million. Yangjiang is famous at home
and abroad for its traditional handicrafts,
and it is titled as "City of Knife
and Scissors in China", "Hometown
of Kites", and coastal ecological city.
1. General Survey of Economic
Development
Yangjiang City developed with a high speed.
In 2003, its economy registered an increase
speed topped the past six years’ and
the export value reached the highest in
history and the utilization of foreign investment
increased fast. The import and export value
accounted for US$ 810 million, an increase
of 28.9% compared with that of last year,
in which export value was US$ 690 million,
increase by 38.4%. The contractual attraction
of foreign capital was US$ 142 million,
increase by 71.3%; actual utilization of
foreign investment was US$ 133 million,
increase by 31%.
2. Unique Advantages and Development
Characteristics

Investment environment
has been ameliorated. It is a communication
pivot linking mid Guangdong to west
Guangdong. The National Highway 325,
the Guangdong-Zhanjiang Expressway,
the Coastal Expressway in West Guangdong
and Sanshui-Maoming Railway are running
through the city. One State Grade A
port and one oil-gas wharf with handling
capacity of 35,000 tons of Yangjing
port have been put into operation, and
a 35,000 tons bulk cargo quay is under
construction. A transportation network
comprising marine, air and land transportation
has been basically formed. Water Supply
and power supply is sufficient and modernized
communication network is complete. |

Industrial system with light industry
as the mainstay has been formed. Yangjiang
is famous at home and abroad for its
traditional handicrafts, such as knives,
lacquer ware, and fermented soya bean.
Hardware and cutting tool industry is
one of the industries with most characteristics
and advantages in Yangjiang. At present,
there are more than 3,000 enterprises
on hardware and cutting tool industry
in the whole city, whose output and
export value account for 60% and 80%
of total in the whole country respectively.
The “Kitchen Knife Center of China”,
the “Scissors Center of China”
and the “Knife Center of China”
settled down in Yangjiang in succession.
In addition, a lot of industries including
the food processing industry, light
textile industry and garment, electro
mechanics, medicine, chemical industry,
building materials gain new development.

place of tourism, and the athletic competition.
Yangjiang enjoys beautiful mountains
and ocean, and scenic spots are found
everywhere. There are National Four-A
Grade Scenic Spot and the Provincial
Grade Scenic Spot. Its ten-mile Silver
Beach has been written down in the Guinness
Book of World Records. There are also
lots of hot spring, spacious forest,
attractive rivers, and lakes and waterfalls.
Travel, sport, culture, and trade are
combined together, and the World and
Asian Beach Volleyball Championship
and the International Kite Festival
have been held many times here. Yangjiang
has already become an ideal place of
